Up until last night, Martin Scorsese had been Oscar-less. Scorsese had been nominated six times previously for an Oscar for Best director and never once before last night was he selected to be honored for outstanding Direction This placed him in the company of such directors as Alfred Hitchcock (5 nominations), Robert Altman (5), Stanley Kubrick (4), Federico Fellini (4), Ingmar Bergman (3), David Lynch (3), George Lucas (2), Orson Welles (1) and Sergio Leone (0), none of whom have won a competitive Oscar for directing, though Altman, Hitchcock, Fellini, Bergman, and Welles were all awarded honorary Oscars, and Lucas won the Irving G. Thalberg Award. . Last night his film The Departed took 4 Oscar awards including Best Picture of the Year winning the award broke a three-decade losing streak, and when he was presented the Oscar by three titans -- Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg – it was legendary. 1967: The Big Shave (short)
Who's That Knocking at My Door
 Street Scenes
 Boxcar Bertha
 Mean Streets
 Italianamerican
 Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
 Taxi Driver
 New York, New York
American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince
 The Last Waltz
 Raging Bull
 The King of Comedy
 After Hours
 The Color of Money
 The Last Temptation of Christ

 The Age of Innocence
 Casino
A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies

 Bringing Out the Dead
 Gangs of New York
 The Aviator
 No Direction Home: Bob Dylan

I personally think he should have one this award years ago but there was always another director standing in his way. Any thoughts on Scorsese?
