The Lars family owned both droids but had no problems just letting them disappear with strangers never to return until Episode IV. When he returend he didn't even recognize them though he owned them once.

There were so many droids that looked alike it makes perfect sense that they didn't recognize them, both of the droids minds were wiped so they wouldnt have any recollection of the Lars family. It shouldnt have been that big a deal to let the droids go because R2 units were common enough to get another if they needed it.
