I rented this movie this weekend, mostly for my wife because she's a Stallone fan. I'm not so much of one because he always came off a little arrogant and unlikeable to me. Moreover, I've found the Rocky movies to be a tad predictable and forumlaic for my tastes too.
Surprise! Gone is Stallone's arrogance, replaced by a shy, sheepish, "has-been" mannerism that came off as likeably humble! Lots of charater development about what it's like to be a famous "has-been" and some really moving scenes with his son as he tries to pass on his work and life ethic to him.
A fun, Summer-Autumn romance is included, as well as some "I'm getting old" angst from his former sidekick is present. And even the antagonist learns something in the movie, Not the vicious bad guy were used to in a Rocky movie, but rather a young kid a little lost in the world of fame that needs some lessons from Stallone as well.
The basic plot, Stallone wins a cyber boxing match against the reigning "and unlikeable at the time" champion leads to a match between young and old. That was predictable, but the ending isn't.
Overall...one of the best Rocky movies ever. Deep, thoughtful, elegant, and with great boxing too!

| So will I. I just bought it cause I like the Rocky movies, ever since I was a kid. I was hesitant to buy it because so many people said it was not the greatest, but then maybe they were expecting the old Rocky to be back.

| I liked the movie a lot since it is very inspirational, especially to my generation. As a teenager and senior in college, I think I am lost sometimes wonder what the real world is outside of the academic circles. Upon watching the movie, it impressed on me that I should never be afraid of anything. When a challenge or dilemma come my way, I just remember the conversation of Rocky Sr to Rocky Jr about how life will give us all the bumps on the road and we needed to accept it and fight back.
