I haven't seen too much of the movie yet. Do you think it is going to cause jewelry sales to be down during this shopping season?

I just watched this movie and it is pretty good. De Caprio is believable as the illegal diamond merchant and Hounsou is his normal intense and serious. Connolly is fine as the journalist, but her role is secondary.

The world they show is violent and not to nice with children in the military and drugs and just unpleasant situations.

I would recommend it as a renter.

One thing I forgot to add is that this is an action movie with an undertone of a political message about illegal conflict diamonds, etc. The fictional diamond company must be the real world De Beers or other giant diamond company.

The end of the movie has some text about the real situation and it is pretty amazing to read that there are 200,000 children in the military in Africa.

This movie showed me the hardships of real life present in Africa.
See the exploitation and you will know what I mean by it!

The balance between entertainment and a thoughtful social commentary helps the center of the story to have a real heart and a palpable respect for us, the audience.

The movie has the same appeal as watching a car wreck unfold in the intersection in front of you. You don't want to see that kind of stuff, but you can't take your eyes offf it.

Thank God for the redeeming ending with the hero walking away from all of it, but like many hyper-realisticly-violent movies from "Saw" to "Saving private Ryan"  I felt like I had stuck my finger in a light socket for a while afterwords.
