Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. Over the years, he retains hope and in time gains the respect of his fellow inmates, particularly longtime prisoner "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), a black marketer, and becomes influential within the prison.
IMO, best Stephen King adaptation to date. One of my favorite movies.

This is also one of my all time favorites, watching this man suffer through his imprisonment, watching the relationship develop and the ending is so superbly done! It is one that I do not mind watching more than once and really one of the only Steven King movies i can sit through without closing my eyes!

In my opinion - THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME...period
IMDB always has it ranked close to the top of all of the "best of" lists.
I have watched this movie at least 500 times and EVERY time it comes on TBS or some cable channel, which is all of the time, I find myself watching all or part of the movie.
I know about 50 people who do the same thing, lol.
What a great movie! Who doesn't get teared up when they hug on the beach at the end when the credits start to roll!

Frank Darabont gets a perfect 10 on this one. I always have to watch it when I'm flipping through the channels and I see it on TNT.

It's on TNT and TBS fairly often too. I can't stand to watch movies on non premium channels due to commercials and this is one of the few films I will leave on. I find it a shame that Darabont doesn't do all of King's films.
