I started watching this film under protest sure that I wasn't going to like it, within 5 minutes I realized I should have never procastinated watching it because it is a GREAT movie!
Based on the life of Frank Hopkins and his mustang Hidalgo, set in 1890. The Ocean of Fire-a 3,000 mile survival race across the Arabian desert was a challenge restricted to the finest Arabian horses ever bred, the purest and noblest lines, owned by the greatest royal families. The wealthy sheikh whose horse always wins has asked Hopkins to come and race when all Hopkins has ever known are the roads/trails of the US. Powerful movie, extremely well written 5 stars

I agree Jess. This is one of the most underrated movies. Viggo Mortensen, who also stars as the lead in Lord of the Rings, is pefectly casted in this movie. The movie had plenty of heart, and is one of the best movie's you'll see. I recommend you go out and get this DVD asap.
