Well I have seen this twice now and think I am more confused than the 1st time. Oprah was a great actress and the gal who played Beloved. Danny Glover is always great!
I get the house was haunted and all at first, but seems like after Beloved showed up it stoped being haunted.
Who was the one that she had to protect Denver from? She refered to it once and never again.Was it Beloved? How many kids did she have? How many did she kill?
O.k., now to those who havent seen it. This run away slave (Oprah) Sethe goes to Ohio to become free, she is 9+ months pregnant, she has Denver when she reaches Ohio river. Denver was the only child that she named. Aparently slaves didnt name the children because not knowing who the father might be. They where repeatedly raped and beat and stuff. And they took thier kids from them as soon as they where old enough to work or (take). It was a great movie if I could understand it more. lol
Sethe had some severe emotional issues after fleeing to Ohio that caused her to kill all her kids but 1 (Denver).
This young girl shows up she could hardly talk was dirty and all, but skin smooth as a baby. She acted strange and said strange things then went bezerk. Like she was demon possessed and said she was Sethe's child. One that was killed. Sethe lost her job then her mind. Denver almost went nuts herself, her mom kinda put her to the side and was giving everything and all her atention to Beloved.
It is much longer and complicated than this, but gives you an idea.

hi shorty  i've also watched this movie twice. same as you. i also have confusions after watching this movie :D but then Oprah was really great!

| It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but reading the book really helped me understand the movie. Sorry I can't remember it very well because it's been so long, but I didn't like the movie because it didn't all make sense to me. But after I read the book the week following, I liked the movie a whole lot better.

I too read the book years before I saw the movie. The plot is this *Spoiler Alert* number 3 LOL
Oprah had a baby with her husband and they decided to escape from slavery. He in the attempt was caught and killed but she thought he deserted her.
She made it but had a baby on the way that she had to keep quiet while hiding and she killed the baby by accident but this scarred her for life. She was re-united with husband's family and years later the dead baby shows up all grown-up but filled with hatred because she was killed. She makes Oprah's life hell and sucks the life out of Oprah and is finally banished after sleeping with Oprah's BF Danny Glover and pushing her sister to the side. She is played by Thandie Newton (from MI II, Pursuit of Happyness, Flirting, The Truth about Charlie, Crash, and Norbit)
My DH said the red scene where all the furniture moved around scared him so much he could not recover to understand the rest of the movie. It was really a horror movie, imagine killing your baby so you could survive and it comes to haunt you with a baby's sensibilities in an adult's body? And is is named Beloved? Yes I love this movie, I was also confused after the first time I watch it. I used to catch it all the time on tv and watched it every chance I got. Oprah really did a great job in this movie as so did Danny Glover and the other cast members. The ending is what really had me confused the first time I watched it, but after talking with other people about the movie and watching it over and over again I finally really understood it.
I have not read the book though.

| yeah, i still remember this movie from Oprah Winfrey ,Danny Glover and Thandie Newton which were the main characters in the movie..but unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish this movie..:(
