Martin Scorsese directs this very well done movie about a mob family and the police that are chasing him and trying to arrest him. The cops put an undercover agent in the mob and the mob puts one of there guys in the police force. From there it is a cat and mouse game with both trying to flesh out each other.

the movie is VERY well done, but the only thing I did not like, or believe, is that out of all of the people in the Boston area, many millions, that both the bad cop and the undercover agent would end up involved with the same therapists. It just did not seem believable, but that is a minor point.

The end is pretty dramatic and kind of "cleans" everything up in the story a little to neatly. Overall I would recommend this movie.

**Spoiler alert**

This movie has a lot of plusses. The city of Boston is practically another character in the movie, leonardo dicaprio's nuanced performance, at times I could feel his fear; matt damon's deeply corrupted cop, lucky until the end. I was stunned that almost everyone died by the end, this is novel among american filmmakers; I think Scorsese took a lot of chances. Danny Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin were two of the best of these. I especailly liked how leo's character told the only Black cop in the movie that he was fu*ked, he was a black cop in boston LOL.

One thing that did not work for me was Vera Farmiga in the role in which she was cast. I don't think she's ugly, I just couldn't accept her as a sex bomb who would attract both leo's and matt's characters, it weakened the story for me. She could have been more pro-active too. The only power she seemed to have was to say no and it wasn't even clear to me whose baby she was supposed to be pregnant with. Small quibbles with a film that I would like to see again knowing how it all turns out.

I just finished Internal Affairs, which is the Chinese movie that Martin Scorsese based The Departed on and it is EXACTLY THE SAME. Scorsese literally copied the entire movie. I actually think that the Chinese version is better, much better.
I recommend renting it from Blockbuster Online or Netflix if you can. good ORIGINAL movie.

The Departed
Im in the left field on this movie, I enjoyed it but honestly the only thing that saved the movie for me was the ending, if it wasnt for that I probably would talk down upon this movie. All the actors did a wonderful job but I was just really setback at what all took place and how somethings ended. I havent watched Internal Affairs but now that you mention it I will surely try to watch that one aswell.

This gotta be one of Leonardo's best performances. I can see that he really matured when it comes to taking new roles. He's not the teeny bopper we used to see in magazines and romance flicks... He's really a more prolific and mature actor now.
