Here are some of my movie favorites I would recommend and a little info about each.
The Shawshank Redemption – far far and away my favorite and almost always on the best of all time lists. Incredible story about 2 men in jail and the decades they spend together and what happens around them. Here is a link to some info - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111161/
The Usual Suspects – Kevin Spacey won an academy award for this one. Really…REALLY great suspense crime story. Here is a link to some info - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114814/
Goodfellas – arguably one of the best movies ever about the mob. Virtually everyone is in it and many awards were won. Here is a link to some info - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099685/
Pan’s Labyrinth – Came out this past year. Is an ADULT fairy tail. Just incredible effects and wonderful story. Watch the subtitled version so you really get the dialog and have to really focus on the screen and mind blowing effects. This move moved into my top 5 list of all time this year. Won virtually every international award and 3 Academy Awards – Make sure to checkout the DVD extras!. Here is a like to some info - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430/
Must sees – The Illusionist and The Prestige – 2 movies about competing magicians BOTH came out in the same year (2006) and BOTH are incredible. Impossible to not watch every second of both and be amazing. Amazing acting by Edward Norton, Christian Bale and many others.
My favorite Recent Comedies – Old School, The 40 Year Old Virgin, The Wedding Crashers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy, Elf,
My Favorite Fun Action and/or Sci Fi and/or crime movies – Independence Day (lots of fun and incredible effects), Fight Club, Se7en (gritty, groundbreaking, cop/killer movie, won many awards), V for Vendetta (just so good and memorable).
I would love your feedback on my movie recommendations!

| Thats a pretty good list, TVDinner. I definately agree with you with Pan's Labyrinth, The Illusionist, and the Prestige. Those 3 films were just incredible. Your comedy list is also pretty darn good as well, especially Elf (although this is best seen during the Christmas holidays).

No doubt, Goodfellahs rocks.
But why the recommendation to watch pan's Labyrinth with subtitles. Wouldn't that make it harder to see the special effects?
I tried to watch it once, but got turned off by the subtitles and a rather slow beginning.
As to both Shawshank and ID4 - I am so burned out from seeing those movies, I'll prrobablyhave to wait at least twenty years to watch either of them again. Although, I agree that if you haven't ever seen them, they are both EXCELLENT!
I kind of wish I could see them for the first time again.
Sadly, I didn't like any of the comedies that you picked, but maybe its just me. I haven't seen a comedy that actually made me really laugh since the original "Airport" or maybe "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."
I'd say the most recent comedy I liked, and it aint all that recent, was "Top Secret" with Val Kilmer.
